Content of Class

I Le‘a Ka Hula 2024 presentations will focus on hula kahiko, hula ‘auana, oli, mele and hana no‘eau. Please consider the level of proficiency required for the hula or mele as well as any other requirements such as hula implements. Workshops are 90 minutes, unless noted otherwise.


Presentation Platform

2024 presentations will be conducted in person and through the virtual platform Zoom. A welcome packet will be emailed to each registarred participant along with their class schedule the week of February 20th. All in person classes will take place at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center; actual class location and virtual invitation will be sent out the night proir to each class session along with lyrics to mele being taught. A minimum enrolment of ten (10) participants are required for each class.

In Person Participation:

• All in person participants are expected to activly participate in class.

• No visitors or spectators will be allowed without permission by instructor.

• Face masks are under the discretion of the class instructor.

• No foods or drinks are allowed except for bottled water.

• No recording by participants will be allowed.
(With permission by instructor, a separate link of the recorded class will be forward to participants within 20 days after the conference is completed. )

• Every person participating in a class must be registered.

Virtual Participation:

• All participants are required to sign on with their name matching their registration information.

• All participants must turn on their video cameras and mute their audio unless told to do otherwise by the presenter.

• Only one(1) computer device will be allowed per registration.

• If participating as a group; each member of the group must me registered.

• No recording by participants will be allowed.
(With permission by instructor, a separate link of the recorded class will be forward to participants within 15 days after the conference is completed. )

• Every person participating in a class must be registered.


Class Etiquette

I Le‘a Ka Hula strives to create a hālau experience for all participants. To maintain culture and traditions all participants are expected to abide by the following guidelines*:

• Attendees are expected to fully participate in learning the hula presented during the workshop.

• Private conversations and/or other distractions should not take place during class.

• Participants microphone must be muted, and camera turned on.

• Respect and consideration to Kumu Hula, Presenter, and other Participants is mandatory.

• A video of the hula being taught is a privilege; it is not guaranteed and on the discretion of each kumu hula.

*I Le‘a Ka Hula and/or presenting Kumu Hula have the right to remove participants from class who do not follow these guidelines.


Cost, Registration, and Requirements

Cost for each class is $50 (US$). Registration is through the online website ileakahula.com beginning December 10, 2023, and will continue through February 20, 2024. In-person registration the week of classes be charged $60. In-person registration, the day of class, closes 1 hour prior to class. (Providing space is available.)

Payment by credit card only. Those who register for online instructions will be sent the Zoom Class Invitation the evening prior to the class along with words and translations to the hula being presented. Participants are encouraged to sign up according to their level of proficiency in hula: Advance, Intermediate or Beginner. A minimum of 10 students will be required for a class to be conducted. Certain classes will be limited according to the Kumu Hula/Presenter’s preference and requirements.


Refunds

Refund policy is as follows: 95% refunds prior to Febrary 20th; No refunds after Febrary 20th. Refunds will be processed 15-20 days after the conference is completed.
