According to Hawaiian Language scholar Puakea Nogelmeier, - A cowboy from Kaupō, Scott Ha’i asked, “How come you go to that mountain and not mine?” Word play, a favorite device in Hawaiian song, occurs here with “lili”, which means jealous, and “‘Ahulili,” heaped up jealousy, a prominent peak in Kaupō, Maui depicted as jealous because it is seldom covered by the light mist that typically settles on mountain peaks.  There are numerous versions of this traditional song about a jealous woman. 

Bio:
Kumu Hula William Kahakuleilehua Haunu’u Sonny Ching founded Hālau Nā Mamo O Pu’uanahulu on March 24, 1986 with a group of 20 kūpuna (elders) at Pākī Park on the island of O’ahu. From its early beginnings, the hālau has grown to 300+ students in Hawai’i - ranging in ages from 4yrs to 97yrs old. Sonny Ching is the 5th generation of Kumu Hula in his family.
